I am looking for a 11" MBA 2013 Refurb 4GB/512GB

Question is with ML or Mavericks is 4gb good enough for basic computer usage MS Office, iTunes, some small games etc? I know Mav is supposed to make 4GB run like 8GB so do I really need 8GB bc this will be my only and main Computer. Curious to those who have one and only have 4GB if that seems to be enough. I am in IT and have a new high end Dell with 8GB and Win 7 for work, so I only need my MBA for basic stuff.

Is there a 4gb/512gb model? I thought the 512 model also had 8gb (which is what I have). But I had a 4gb 2011 MBA and it was completely fine for everyday things - and even worked well with Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.

When I got the 8gb 2013 model, I had both of them side by side while setting things up. For things like you describe, I noticed very little difference at all. And this was with 10.7 on the 2011 machine.

Who keeps spreading this crap?

And he's in IT.

Memory compression they say, well I hope a dedicated hardware is doing that job, because if the CPU is needed for the task, this reminds me of disk compressions of the early 90's.

The 4GB model will be fine for what most people do, including yourself.

It was in one of the tech posts a while back that Mav utilizes 4gb just like it was 8gb better memory management, seems possible anyway, but if it performs well with 4gb I am all in, however just found a 2013 refurb with 8gb/512gb and 1.7 instead of 1.3 for about $300 less than a new one

My current 11" MBA (which was bought in a hurry last summer, as my 13" CTO wasn't ready in time) is a refurb of the 2012, which comes with i7, 8GB Ram, and 256 SSD.

It is a very fast machine - the 8GB does make a difference. As the 8GB model was available, I snapped it up. In fact, I went from a 2010 2GB MBA straight to a 8GB model - the difference is incredible.
