I wanted something a little smaller than the 11 pro max, a bit too wide. I was considering the 12 regular basic model.

How much of a downgrade is this? I don't really do much on my phone besides texting, talk and a little browsing. I do have about 30 gigs of music stored on it though.

Mostly considering this for the easier 1 handed use.

I have the 11 pro max for my work phone and the 12 for my personal. If you just use it for browsing and text it’s not a downgrade at all. The scree is smaller sure but it’s not that small. I would say give it a try through the return period at least.

I bought my phone cash from swappa and I use prepaid, so I either have to try from a major carrier for 30 days or buy from swappa and if I don't like sell it.

I really want to try out the new design though, I'm hearing it's easier to hold.

You will miss out on telephoto lens and the screen size of Pro Max. Other than that can't say it is a downgrade

Cool if your a light user you won't be needing all the bells and whistles a 12 is not really a downgrade but I love the 12pro much better

3 cameras look better but isn't the screen the same? Outside of a few issues and a better build it's mostly the same phone.

I’m a heavy user and had the 11 Pro Max. I got the 12 and I have no regrets whatsoever And it also has a much better grip due to flat edges, which my 11 Pro Max compensated with its weight.

Consider the 12 mini. It would be a joy for single handed use, and looks like you’re not using your phone for various social media stuff, so the smaller battery would probably be alright for your usage.

The regular 12 might still feel quite big for single handed use. But battery life will be great.

As for downgrading from the 11 Pro Max, you’ll definitely lose the telephoto camera, although that might not matter if you don’t actually use it often. And that’s about it. The regular 12 sports OLED panel, the same as the 12 Pro. So you’ll practically only losing the telephoto lens.

I'll see what Apple does but I don't care much for Apple's software so I don't really care what they do.

I'm mostly interested in the square edge compared to the round edges for the 11.

I have an 11 Pro Max and would definitely swap to a regular 12 purely to have a phone that weighs less.
But I haven’t , and probably won’t with the 13 series coming out in under 3 months.
The screen on the 12 is fantastic , a leap ahead of the prior generation XR (being much higher res). Arguably the design is better than the 12 Pro too (no shiny finger print magnet sides)
The only thing I would miss is the telephoto lens. Could get a 12/13Pro for that but that would mean paying a fair chunk more for just that which seems excessive.
If the 13 (when announced) disappoints, then you can probably pick up a discounted 12 from somewhere too.
