Do you think there will be price drops for the 11 pro max 256 gb where the price brand new in box for $800? Or am I unrealistic. looking to buy one for my parental unit.

Likely not at the apple store. Once the iPhone 12 hits the shelf, While iPhone 11 will be taken off the website, Apple Store can sell whatever remaining stock they have left on the shelf, but likely only $100 off it's original price.
I've been keeping an eye on the 11 pro max as I'm looking to make the same purchase.
As of right now I highly doubt it, used maybe, but definitely not new and not the 256 models.
I have seen a few used ones floating around the low $820s though!
