I was pleased to finally purchase my 15" MBP today, with the stock 500GB 7200RPM drive.

I was ready to head over to newegg to purchase a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 drive for my optibay. However, I was very disappointed to hear that OCZ has apparently wrecked their SSD drives as they made a mid-product switch to 25nm, which is up to 50% slower than the previous 32nm. With no change to packages/specs/prices/etc there is no way to tell which drives are 25nm.

So now I'm back to square 1.

I don't want to spend more than $230 for a 120GB drive. What would you all suggest? Is there anyone else using Sandforce who is in the same ballpark - both for price and performance?

I'm starting to kick myself already for not just going with the $90 apple upgrade to their 128GB Samsung SSD.

I have been doing the same thing! Haven't seen anything about a new drive though. I'm just assuming that they will come out with a SF-2000 controlled drive pretty much around the same time as OCZ. From what I have read, a lot of people like the OWC drives. Plus they offer a bundle with a tool kit and an external enclosure for your stock drive. Pretty cool deal. I am pretty psyched about the new refresh. SATA III, Sandy Bridge quads, and Thunderbolt in the 15" and 17". Nice for those of us looking for a new 15" for our first Mac. :D

Ah, I thought you had read something I had missed :D. But yeah, I guess they should release something in a month or two.

Why don't you order the SKU online with the $90 SSD and return the one you just bought? That seems like the best bang for your buck by far.
