I am finally going to buy a new MBP with this update today, but am struggling to decide between the 750gb 5400rpm or 500gb 7200rpm HDD. I would have gotten SSD if i had the money, but i need to save up first. I plan on using the mbp for gaming, movies, and music, so could use a faster hdd, but i also generally store the files on my computer. Which one should i choose???

reall depends on the importance

size is most important then go for the 750 or go for cheapest and pop a 3rd party in

speed the 7200rpm will be faster but has 250gb less storage so it depends what you value most.

7200 is 33.3% faster. I'm not in front of you so look in the mirror and slap yourself for considering the snail like 5400

I don't need 750 GB of space so I opted for the 500 GB 7200rpm HDD.

However, I believe when reading data from the disk sequentially the 750 GB should be faster due to how much more densely packed the bits are. When reading data from the disk non-sequentially I would think the 500 GB HDD would be faster, but I really don't know for sure. Either one is better than the 160 GB 7200rpm drive in my current MBP.

Yes, for games and movies, the 750GB is faster. For general system use, the 500GB is faster.
