I'm considering showing up on Friday March 11th for the launch. I've never been at an Apple Store for a launch...have always ordered online. But since that's not an option this time with the iPad 2, I thought it might be fun to go in-person, wait in line, and be one of the first to get an iPad.

Who else is planning on showing up to the Shadyside store?

Hey smileyborg. I'm definitely gonna be there with a friend or two, we live right around the block.

I have no idea on how big the line's gonna be, so my plan is to stroll around Walnut 2 hours earlier, just to check for suspicious gatherings :D

Sounds good. I don't know how busy it will be, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are people there lining up in the morning, given that the only way to get the iPad 2 on day 1 is to show up in person since they aren't doing preorders. I might check in around lunchtime and see how things look. I'll also be watching to see what the weather will be like.

I talked to an employee at the Apple Store Shadyside today, she said that the store would likely close for an hour or two before 5:00pm tomorrow, based on previous evening product launches.

Just went to the Shadyside store to check, only two people in line at 11:50am.

It's snowing lightly, I guess it'll probably rain a bit in the afternoon. Bring your umbrellas!

Update for the Target in Monroeville:

Not too far if Shadyside sells out. I'm first in line... In a line of 2 people. Store managers say that "they should have enough to go around."

EDIT: They just got their shipment, and it's only four 32gb wifi black models. They called around and apparently all of the targets in the area are getting random allotments. One store apparently only got 64gb black Verizon units.

Apple Store employees here are giving out free Smartwater and coffee. It's cold. No major snow or rain yet, though (thankfully). I'm about #15 in line, probably around 80 people here now.

There was a HUGE line at 5pm, I could not see the end of it. My best guess would be 200-300 people? Doubtful that everyone in line will get an iPad unless they have a huge inventory. All I could see is that they had somewhere between ~250-500 smart covers on the rack. Don't know if that corresponds to iPad inventory or if they had more in the back.
