So, looks like right after BB/Apple store, I would have to run and get on a bus for 4 hours. Skipping home, and basically anything with an electrical outlet.

When you bought your 1st iPad, how was the battery? Fully charged? Half? Empty?

It's got a decent charge on it, but you won't be able to use it without first synching it with a computer.

IIRC, the Apple products I've purchased have usually had a charge ranging from 40- 70%.

However, as alust2013 noted above, you'll need to connect the iPad to a computer first.

It is true that you have to connect it to a computer first, but at the Apple Store, they offer free setup and will do it for you before you leave the store.

I have to take my netbook with me. A work related trip that requires Windows apps. Will activate it on a bus, or get it activated in Apple Store. I am not too worried about activation. Just something to do while travelling.
