I am so fed up with this Apple product you guys. And I consider myself an Apple fanboy.
I have a new 4GB 2.53 i5 MBP mid-2010, that is a replacement for my previous 4 GB 2.53 i5 MBP mid-2010 that I bought in September. The original one I had had crazy graphics issues (the pixelated mosaic distortions) and frequent kernel panics (3-4 times a day). I am under Applecare, so they replaced the logic board on that, but I still had the graphics issue
, so they gave me a new one. This brand new one that I got was in the first week of January.
3 days later, after turning the computer off before going to bed, I woke up, and turned my Macbook Pro on, and discovered that my two administrator user accounts were gone! Luckily I had enabled my Guest Account, and can log in as expected without a password even though it initially prompts me for a password. In my Macintosh HD folder, the Users Folders are still there, Hard drive space is still just as used up. However, I cannot change any system preferences settings, because I am a Guest. My User Name and password fields are blank, and my now "lost" account's usernames and passwords do not work.
This was extremely frustrating, and the issue was resolved on the phone with an Apple Tech. They actually had me on hold for 45 min while trying to figure out what was wrong. Even through the process, there were irregularities. I cannot remember the steps to fixing this, but I remember booting off of the Install Disk, and changing some settings to show system administrator account (root user? something like that) to my Macbook Pro. Then i logged into that from the account screen, and then re-associated the folders that are in the users folder with usernames to new accounts using the same names.
I ended up getting all my stuff back, but it was still not exactly how it was before. I ended up wiping the computer and restoring from my Backup drive.
Unfortunately, this problem has reoccured, and I have FINALS starting MONDAY!!!!!!!!!! I have a genius bar appt. scheduled (perfect timing....iPad 2 launch...), but what is causing this to happen!?
I am running OS X 10.6.6. Cannot run software update, because it asks for admin authorization...
Things to Note:
When using loggin in and using fast user switching,
The first admin user account was "John Generic Joe" and the home folder was actually "John Doe"
The second admin user account was "John Doe" and the home folder was actually "John"
For some reason, my home folders on those admin accounts were able to be like this:
John Doe
John
Instead of this:
johngenericdoe
johndoe
Please help in any way you can, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
