I'm sure my 9600GT 512mb RAM is inferior to snb's HD3000 just wondering what the comparisons are in real world testing.

What do you all think? How much more powerful is the current low end GPUs?

It's more powerful than the 9400m slightly, but i'm not sure about the 9600.

HD3000 is better than the 9400M, but definitely not better than the 9600M GT as its a discrete card. Don't play games on your lap though as the 9600 is sure to reduce your sperm count (assuming you're a guy).

Ha... well I guess I'll be keeping my MBP for a little while longer then.

I'm outfitting it with a 256gb SSD, optibaying the DVD drive with a 500gb and kicking it up to 8gb of RAM. :)

Yeah I would agree the 512mb 9600gt, while outdated, is still a better option than the new intel HD integrated for sure. I have the same model as you (512mb) and I do some light gaming (mostly CS:S) and can play on medium to high settings and get 80-120fps easily.

Do you have the flicker issue on the 9400m when running off of the battery? Any advice on preserving battery life? I've been on for 30 min or so and down to 67% already today... USING the 9400m.
