I can't find the hosts file on my mac. I keep seeing /etc/hosts. I can't find that directory.

I need to edit the hosts file to get iTunes to let me restore my iPad to 4.2.1. Please help. Thank you.

Hosts should be in your /etc folder. If not just create one (text format) with the following contents:

#########

127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost

### ipod/iphone ###
# 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
# 74.208.*.* gs.apple.com

Jeeze people. Instead of going through this hassle, why not just use the tinyumbrella program instead? It'll do this work for you.

By the way, you don't just make this file from scratch, it's already on your Mac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From a Terminal enter: sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
