21.5" AMD 6750M,$1199
21.5" AMD 6770M $1499
27" AMD 6770M $1699
27" AMD 6970M $1999

I think that`s AWESOME upgrade. Are you also happy?

YES!

But what happened to that sandy bridge thing people kept waffling on about, is it here or not?:confused:

I'd love to know why the UK store hasn't got the prices up yet :p

Its had them up for a while now.

Also, its strange that the base 21.5 has the same gpu as the high end macbook pro.

Either way, a 6970m isnt too great. People who arent gamers should be fine with it, but its pretty bad for things like MMOs, especially at such a high resolution. 2GB vRAM upgrade should help with that I guess. But meh

It seems like only the 27" 3.1Ghz model is comparable to high end 15" MBP and up. The rest are stuck with 512MB of v-ram :(

It doesnt work if you go via the store select to buy option.

Click on the Mac tab, not the store, then select to buy via that route.

For some reason I get a 'opps' trying to select through the store route

Why isn't this one too great? Doesn't that mean the previous 5870 card was crap?
Surely it's better? :confused::confused:

well, 5850M had 800 shaders/40tmu, 16 rops
6970M has 960 shaders/56tmu, 32 rops

great rop count increase, but marginal compute power increase

Apologies b/c I'm a little ignorant on the graphics card specs these days. Haven't kept up nearly as much as I should have.

Can someone tell me if a 6770 is worth the price difference over a 6750.

The most taxing games I'd be playing are SC2 and D3 (hopefully this year).

I see that the memory speed is 900 mhz compared to 1600 mhz according to notebookcheck.com but I was curious as to what type of a performance boost I would really see.

Again, sorry for the ignorance, but any help would be greatly appreciated before I pull the trigger.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no. As someone looking for a 21.5'' iMac (27'' is too big for my desk), why is it that the high end 21'' doesn't have a graphics card with as much VRAM as the 15'' MBP? At least as BTO? Why are we stuck with 512MB max?

Thoughts on the 6770M in the base 27" iMac? I really want the base 27" and would be perfectly happy with the base model, aside from the graphics card. The 512MB of video memory seems rather anemic to be pushing that many pixels around. Is this a legitimate concern?

My gaming, if any, would be very minimal.

People were playing with the 5850m(5750) in the previous model and doing ok(WoW) but the 6970m is a pretty big boost. It's essentially a desktop 6850 which benchmarks just a hair above my 460gtx 768mb in my current gaming machine.
The ever so slightly higher benchmarks with the 2gb of ram should give similar FPS at the higher resolution coupled with an even faster processor than even my current Core i7 920 makes it a pretty good upgrade for an imac.

I´m happy with hi-end 27¨

It´s the best mobile GPU from Radeon available today.
But mind my asking, do you think it´s worth to upgrade the GPU RAM from 1Gb into 2Gb? What will it affect? I mean 1Gb DDR5 is plenty for a GPU

The GPU ram helps with large amounts of textures as well as gaming at higher resolutions.

i configured a dell xps 8100 and the 6970m is faster than the top end card that dell offers as a bto

I am pretty much clueless about graphics cards. I will have to go for the lowest end 21 inch with the 6750m.

Will it be possible to play Shogun 2 Total War on it's highest settings?
Recommended spec's are: 2nd generation i5, 4gb ram, AMD Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 series GPU.

The numbers seem to match with the low end 21 inch but, as I said, I know nothing about GPU's.

Running bootcamp with Win7.

I am trying to figure out why you can't configure a 1GB GPU on the base 27" iMac. This was possible on the base July 2010 model.

Can you run 2 extra 27" screens on the new 27" iMac?

Yes

The smaller iMac sports a single Thunderbolt port while the larger version includes two—Moody confirmed that those ports are independent as well, meaning that users essentially have four 10Gbps channels. That allows, for the first time, the 27-inch iMac to drive two external displays—and that’s in addition to other high-speed peripherals. Moody also said that the adoption of Thunderbolt is progressing, with several vendors announcing plans for compatible peripherals at the NAB show last month
