Efi 2.1 Benchmarks, before and after

Using passmark, since I just happened to have a very recent saved file.

Pre 2.1/Post 2.1

CPU Mark: 7658.1/7859.7
2D Mark: 786.9/797.2
3D Mark: 1205.2/1198.5
Memory Mark: 1227.3/1330.7
Disk Mark: 980.9/704.5

Only interesting result was the Disk Mark. I haven't changed any drivers, clocks or windows updates from 1 day to the next, so I'm not sure what this sharp in disk could be attributed too.

Pre2.1/Post2.1

Disk - Sequential Read: 80.0/74.8
Disk - Sequential Write: 136.7/82.7
Disk - Random Seek RW: 54.5/37.3

I have a Corsair SSD 128.

I'm going to do a full power cycle and repeat some of these tests just to make sure it's not my fault somehow.
 
Bummer no GPU improvement, that really sucks.

There are definitely some strong yet subtle speed boosts. Some of what I noticed:

-Radeon 6750m screen tearing is gone.
-Safari seems snappier. Not joking though. A lot faster.
-Trackpad responsiveness is drastically increased in Safari and elsewhere. Before, I had issues where if I clicked on the bookmark bar, it wouldn't register the click sometimes. Very annoying. But now it seems to be fixed.
-No ssd for me, but reboot times seem a bit faster.
-Temps seem a hair lower too.
 
I think the discrete gpu was already running at max performance fps-wise, but the firmware update really seems to have smoothed things out driver-wise interface-wise. And Safari seems a lot better too now. Just wish I had an SSD though, as I've heard they all got boot up speed increases.

I also have perceived speed increases on my MBP after the updates. Startups and shutdowns are much faster and the overall feel of the system is "snappier".
 
I find shut down times amazingly fast now. Takes about 4 secs to shut down, even with a paltry 5400rpm HD. Also my Airport issues have gone, YAY!!

I didn't know I had a poultry hard drive. But it explains a lot of the problems I have been having, like the feeling of being hen-pecked by Steve Jobs, and the funny noises I have been hearing from my MBP.

Tonight I am taking the bottom off and see if there are any eggs up there.

What were the airport issues you were having? At home, my wireless seems a bit quicker to load pages, but at Borders, I notice that my computer finds the wireless connection way faster and connects equally fast.

Chrome seems a little snapper and I also noticed watching youtube videos on chrome or some other flash content doesn't turn on the AMD GPU. It stays on Intel HD graphics now.
 
After the EFI update I noticed a huge improvement in the overall feeling of my experience with my 2.3Ghz 15" MBP.

Screen tearing and safari overall feeling made me feel disappointed (esp. after spending $2800 on the machine)

/me is very happy :)
 
One thing that has frustrated me is that, although we rarely need to restart Macs, the startup sequence has an annoying delay in it.

That is, the Apple logo appears and then a five second delay before the spinning wheel starts rotating and the OS begins booting. On my SSD equipped 17" for instance the Apple logo appears for 5 seconds, and then the system boots for 5 seconds and I'm at my desktop.

What has always frustrated me is that I have never seen any reference to this delay online - it seems I am the only one that has found this 5 second delay during startup to be annoying.

This EFI update has FINALLY changed all that. Power on, Apple logo appears, and five seconds later I am at my desktop. No boot delay, no spinning wheel, just straight to my desktop. Kick ass!!!

So your startup is ~5 seconds faster now? 19 seconds down to 14 seconds?

I am late on the subject but I am really hesitating to install the EFI 2.1 as I am scared of any downclocking of GPU or CPU. Did anyone else run other benchmarks to check if there was a drawback (the xbench results in .txt files are not very encouraging if I have correctly interpreted them)? Or did you notice any fps or fastness loss in the 3D intensive applications (I use FCE and Photoshop CS5 mainly).
For the time being I would have no reason to install the update as I have never had any freezing / stability issue (touching wood...)
