The iPad 3G has reportedly been hacked by the guys over at iPhoneIslam to enable full Phone and SMS funtionality. This hack requires no additional hardware as the iPad already has a 3G modem and you’ll perform every cellular operation that you would perform on an iPhone. The video of the hack in action after the break.

Holy ***** if this is legit then it would be a game changer for the iPhone!

The 7" Galaxy Tab can be used as a phone in Europe and flashed with a European rom to use a North American Tab as a phone too.

On the Tab it's useful if your not a big phone user, as the device can fit in large jacket pockets and you don't need to carry 2 devices and tether.

Problem doing the same on a iPad is it's just too big to pocket.

just because you can.

it's not like you'll use it exactly as you would a phone.
just a pair of ear buds or headset with a microphone, like making a skype call.
while you're surfing the web or writing a document.

YTF not ?

Yah, I wouldn't mind this at all. Already take my iPad just about everywhere I go as is. Having a phone function would totally obviate the need for an iPhone. Wouldn't exactly mind that.

I work at a Cellphone store selling Samsung Galaxy Tab's and phones and I cant wait till this also works on the iPad 2...

But why the heck do people think that you would hold the iPad or the Galaxy Tab up against your head while making a call? There is not any proximity sensors to lock the screen, let alone a microphone that would be suited for it...

I dont see how people not would immediately recognize that you'd use speakerphone, or headset... I just see people thinking this way all the time.

You know, you gave me a pretty cool idea.

Why dont you guys just download textfree with voice, hook it to your google account and use it as a phone now? Thats what I do and it works great, and as I said in another thread, mono bluetooth headsets also work with it.

We're all waiting to unlock the clock app, lol.

This phone makes the Samsung Infuse look tiny. Well I guess in America we don't have many good unlocked or simfree phones. This would be pretty nice for traveling oversees.

Can this me used in an iphone that has an iPad sim in it? I already use iCall successfully occasionally for emergencies. But it will not allow inbound or text messages, at least not the free version.

No, this can be used only on an iPad 3G with a phone SIM in it. It basically makes the iPad an oversized iphone, which is incredibly awesome if you ask me :D

The guys who made this live in UAE or some middle eastern country..

I was replying to the dude using the iPad with Google Voice. I'm very interested in this hack because I carry the iPad wherever I go and if I can avoid carrying my phone together with it and just use my phone plan on the iPad.
