iMac to HDTV = Green Screen? (pictures added).

So I went to plug my iMac to the HDTV....

But the screen is all green...I mean you can see that's it the computer on the screen, but everything is green.

Also, I tested my TV with my PS3 to see if it was the TV itself, crystal clear picture with the TV, no issue with it.

I've eliminated the TV from what could be wrong (tested it with the PS3)
The HDMI cord is brand new and I tested it with the PS3 with no problems
The new iMac to HDMI cord is brand spanking new

The screen is still green though. Why??????

I know how to connect it...and I have all of the pieces needed, just the picture on the TV is a mess.

It's a 20" iMac, got it a few years ago.

How do I fix this though?

As you can see, it's not right. And in the bottom right of the picture you can clearly see the iMac's screen is not that color.
 
Won't apple charge $100000 to fix it? - can I do it?

I can try it on another TV...just a pain in the a$$ to move it.

If the iMac output is broken, then you're probably not going to be able to sort it on your own.

Try the other TV, moving the iMac to another room is a lot easier than taking it to an apple store.
 
I have exactly the some problem on a Philips 8404, not always but it happens after a while.
When I disconnect the HDMI on the TV and connect it again it's ok for 10 minutes.
I'll try a different adapter.
 
kind of the same problem, but my colours in the file content playing are greenish

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem.My screen does not go completely green on my led/lcd TV but anything in the file being played seems to swap the red colour spectrum into the green spectrum, eg lips on peoples faces go green/grey instead of pink... and the list goes on.
It's only just started to happen when i play AVI files using the VLC media player on my MacBook Pro. It doesn't happen when I play purchased media content from the itunes store and was only doing it on my laptop when connected to the tv with new HDMI and convertor cables but now also my flatmates also.
Any suggestions????

Hi All....
I get the same issue as TMXX1 with a Mac Mini of late 2011....
Is there any solution like change resolution? Hertz ? or anything else ?
The Mac Mini 2.5 Ghz with ATI 6630 is connected to Philips LED TV via HDMI cable without converters since this model has a HDMI port.

P.s. TMX11 I used your images to post in the right section the same issue I have with the mac mini, I hope this will not bother you. If so please tell me and I delete them.

Solution for me

This was the solution that worked for me: (I tried different adapters)


1. Download http://www.mediafire.com/?fdz29bgsg3zm653

2. Unarchive it

3. In the Finder, go to (using cmd-shift-G) the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/

4. Place the entire directory you unarchived in step 2 (DisplayVendorID-410c) in the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/

5. Reboot
 
the green could be caused by sending a RGB signal into a device expecting YPbYr. YPbYr is the standard for TV, DVD,s, Ect. See if your TV has a setting to tell what type of input to accept if it can't auto detect.

thank you jurpl but what should this process fix ? the mac sending wrong signal over HDMI ?

That is exactly right. A device called a transcoder will fix your problem but quality transcoders will be over $100, maybe more.
