Help, I downloaded the new os x lion on my macbook and now everything on my computer

I downloaded the new OS X Lion on my macbook today and now my whole computer has been erased. all my stuff is gone and deleted. =( How do I get all my stuff back??? What do I do???

I am not sure why installing Lion would have erased your computer? What type of computer do you have?
