If you take a look at random read 4K bench Toshiba is 20% faster than Samsung.

So it's faster to lunch applications or boot the system.

Linear speed is useful only if you trasfer every day single files large lots of gigabytes from the internal ssd to external ssd via thunderbolt.

Where did you read this?

For Xbench Toshiba random reads 4K 15mb/sec while Samsung 12mb/sec.

For lunching applications or boot the system this is more important than linear speed.

While it's true that 4K random reads are important to booting and launching, there's more too it than just that.

We'll need real life benchmarks to confirm.

How do I know if I have a Toshiba SSD? I have an MBA 13" i7, 256gb

Here is a copied and pasted form of the SSD info:

APPLE SSD TS256C:

Capacity: 251 GB (251,000,193,024 bytes)
Model: APPLE SSD TS256C
Revision: CJAA0201
Serial Number: 61JA41EJK6JK

The TS in TS256C indicates you have a Toshiba. The Samsung show as SM256C.

Can we please drop this pointless subject? Too much unnecessary speculation. Is Samsung any faster when it comes to dinnertime by the way?

You and I are both in NYC. Why don't I try your Toshiba at lunch and you can try my Samsung at dinner. :D

I have a Samsung in my 2011 11" MBA and a Toshiba in my 13" 2010 MBA and I did notice that when I started them at the same time the Toshiba booted a couple seconds faster. Both are running Lion. I'm actually going to switch the Toshiba into my 11" when I get the proper screw driver because it is 256GB and I'd rather have double the space even if it may be a bit slower in some benchmarks.

if it's sequential transfer speed that you want, a rotating HDD wouldn't be that far behind.

the difference maker to every day computer usage is most likely going to be 4kRR. This is THE metric that SSD blows HDD completely out of the water. Could've saved a lot of money if it's just sequential speed that people are looking for.
