Paintbrush is "the" Paint application for OS X. Maybe you could tell us why it doesn't work for you.

IMO nothing beats Paint, and that's why I'd recommend trying CanvasPaint.org
It's a Web-based clone of MS Paint (the pre-Windows 7 version).
It should work fine in the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Safari.
It's a little rough around the ages, but if your needs are simple then you might find it works well enough:
