To be clear, I am talking about the non-Pro 6.7 inch phone that will allegedly have a three camera system. That way I get the latest processor, three cameras, strong battery life, latest connectivity in what should be a lighter frame than the 13 Pro Max…

11 Pro Max sitting here now with 94% battery, beautiful midnight green and beautiful green leather case will serve me well for another year
 
You're on the right track. Two years is too frequent to upgrade due to minor enhancements between releases nowadays. It's just the nature of a maturing product.
 
If you compare the specs between the 11 pro max vs the 13 pro max: very little has changed

For me -- the one key change to the 13 Pro was the inclusion of macro mode on the camera. Close-up photography on the 12 & the 11 has quite honestly sucked and requires you to be too far away from the subject to get focus. The Xs and earlier phones were much better in this regard.
