I have a few more hours before the UPS driver arrives but I’m very curious to know how the Qualcomm modem is checking out so far!

That’s one of the main reasons I decided to upgrade considering Apple brought back high-quality modems in the 12 series.

Is anyone noticing better signal strength/signal quality vs. Intel modems?

I haven’t noticed much of a difference but I’ve always had great LTE speeds at home (the only place I’ve had a chance to use it). I haven’t even turned on 5G yet.

Ha I may or may not keep 5G on. I’ve found the differences between Qualcomm & Intel are most noticeable in fringe areas. Qualcomm is superior at hanging on to low signal and still delivering usable speeds. Intel? Not so much.

Add me to the list of people that are impressed by this modem. I am coming from a XS and then SE 2020, both of which had Intel modems. There were spots in my city where I either had no signal or such low signal (1-2 bars) that pages would never load and the phone was unusable when not on WiFi. I went to some of those spots this weekend and wow.

One spot where I usually had no signal gave me 2 bars of 5G (T-Mobile) gave me 80 down and 25 up. Other spots were just great and I did not find myself without signal or the ability to use apps and load pages.

I upgraded from iPhone X with the Qualcomm modem and compared it’s LTE performance with my new iPhone 12 Pro. 12 Pro is noticeable faster on same carrier on LTE.

I shared the video here

As far as DL speeds via LTE, I don't notice any difference between the 11 Pro and the 12 Pro. However, the 12 Pro has a stronger connection in weak signal areas.

This is good news to hear . But I also heard there wasn’t much difference in reception between the 11pro and 12pro .

I think fringe areas is where Qc will benefit the most

If you’ve got full signal all the time probably less so of a difference

Has anybody had a chance to compare pertinent Field Test metrics between the 11 Pro and 12 Pro in the same location?

In my experience at home, I’m mainly on 1 bar with two bars showing up every now and then using my XS Max. Using my 12 Pro, I’m consistently sitting at 2 bars with better call quality.

If you’re in a strong signal area, you won’t notice much of a difference. The differences between Intel and QC are noticeable when your signal is weak and suddenly your phone becomes unusable or struggles to latch onto a better signal.

The better call quality may be related to the fact that with the 12's, wifi calling is on by default. So if your phone is connected to wifi at home, you are making calls through wifi.

For me it’s the same but could be because I’m in a relatively large metro in Canada, where intel chips were “good enough” and the carrier I’m with has good coverage.

never had an issue personally and don’t notice the difference on the 12 pro Vs 11 pro. My X had a Qualcomm chip so I have only experienced intel modem with my 11 pro and had no issues

a lot of the intel issues seem to be with specific American or Euro carriers in much larger metros than most places in Canada, unless others have had differing experiences
