Finally upgrading from the original SE to a 13 Mini

I've primarily used Otterbox cases (Commuter/Defender) but they break about once a year (the inner cover rips on the Commuter and the seal fails on the Defender). I'm pretty underwhelmed with their latest offerings too.

I couldn't use the Touch ID or mute/unmute with a Lifeproof case

And slip covers, though I love them, seems to leave the phone really exposed.

But phone technology has changed, so how much protection do I need with the newer phones?

I bike with the phone in my back pocket so it's exposed to sweat and dirt/mud. I usually put it in a baggie in the more humid parts of summer.

When it's in my back pocket it's bottom-side up, so it can take in rain/snow if I forget that (plus I often have headphones in if working in the yard so bottoms up for that too)

And I drop it. Quite a bit. I have never broken or damaged a phone because of my cases and I'd like to keep it that way.

- Are they sturdy enough now for me to be able to get a slimmer case?

- Would I need a screen protector? That is one thing I've eliminated with the Defender case - actually Apple did that for me with a battery replacement gone wrong.

Thanks!
