12" iBook G3/500 Dual Usb - Problems with S-video

So, I bought a 12" iBook G3/500 (Dual USB)

I'm using the Mini-VGA -> S-video adapter to make it display on a television set. This is the 'official' apple one.

however, the tv screen is garbled, as the refresh rate is most likely wrong.

I know this video chipset cannot support mirroring, but OS X also will not let me change refresh rates (nor will report them in the preferences pane)
This is the Radeon Mobility 8MB...


Any ideas on how to change the refresh rate for the external display?

You could always try Screen Spanning Doctor. Good luck.

The iBooks only display any external monitor/tv as a mirrored desktop. Using the App above will allow you to use your external monitor/tv in extended desktop mode.

Hmmm, the list of supported machines at
http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/supportlist_e.html

says my display device (the 8MB version) is not supported by this patch...
