Hello everyone
My friend's ibook has died on me following what I think was a HD failure.
Originally it refused to boot (? icon on start up). It took several tries to boot from CD but eventually I got to carry out "Apple Hardware Test" which reported Memory, logic board and video memory were OK but for storage device it said "no device attached" or something similar. This supported a HD failure I think. Similarly when booted under firewire target disc mode, a firewire icon failed to appear in the connected computer even though the symbol appeared on the ibook screen. Encouraged that my diagnosis of HD failure was right, I searched the web for instructions to replace HD in ibook. What I found looked a bit fiddly but after further study I took the plunge and removed the HD for inspection and inorder to ensure the device connection had not worked loose or any other obvious visible problem. Upon reassembly of the ibook with the origin HD, the instrument is dead! I am pretty sure I did everthing correctly, and did not damage any components but there is a complete refusal to boot ( no sound, screen or power it seems. The power cord lights up orange when plugged in (without going green first). Any suggestions on fault finding? One additional question please: There is a screw on the upper casing which is covered by a small magnet which in turn contacts a metal pad on the underside of the keyboard. What does this set up do? I would be delighted for any comments, constructive criticism. Thanks for reading this. Cheers, Nick

Is Would I get these symptoms if I damaged the DC in Board?
