One of my main concerns in getting a 12 inch iBook is the screen size. I was wondering if there was a way to make the 12 in mimic the size (text, pictures) of the 14 inch without distortion. I understand that I would be losing some space but that wouldn't be much of a problem if I could get the 12 in to mirror the 14. Lowering the screen resolution wouldn't be an option since taht would make the screen go bad so is there any way other than that?

At this point in time, not without lowering the resolution. There is experimental support in 10.4 for resolution independant display but it's still very rough and many apps do not work properly with it (you can play around with it via Quartz Debug). In 10.5 this will be a user exposed preference.
Some apps (i.e. Safari) can scale the text up though.
