12” MacBook 2016 vs 13" Macbook 2013

which of these is better?
12" Macbook 2016 8gb ram, 256gb SSD hard drive, 1.1ghz dual core intel core m3
13" macbook air mid-2013 4gb ram, 128gb SSD hard drive, 1.3ghz dual core intel core i5

I currently have the mid-2013 macbook air, I was wondering if I should upgrade it to the 2016 macbook?

need it to work well for grad school. be fast quick. efficient. least problems. running multiple programs at once. etc.. all thats needed for school.

What is your budget? If it is at least $1k, I would get the M1 MBA. That would definitely get you through grad school with no problems. If your budget is much lower, the 12" would probably work ok, I had same model and liked it The thing you have to worry about with the 12" is the keyboard. The keyboard design is faulty and has been known to be problematic for many people.
