My new job involves taking a lot of close-up photos of paint defects, structural damage, that sort of thing. Given that I’m rocking my 6S still, does the 12 Mini offer a substantial bump in close-up photo capability?

The 6S is completely fine for my overall needs, but it might be nice to get something newer, and I could use the camera as my excuse.

You could add the Moment Lens to have precise shots with your 12 Mini :D and im sure photo quality will be better.

The Mini will focus down to about 3 inches, which isn't brilliant for insect and spider snappers like me but is far better than the 12 Pro which has a LIDAR scanner to mess things up. Also the wide camera on the 12 has optical image stabilisation which might help you with photo quality, as might the the vastly more powerful image processing. Just tell them you need a new phone.

I use the Camera+ 2 app for close up shots. It's macro mode is bar none one of the best for close up shots. Should help with the mini.

Mini offers better clarity. Why not take one on a test drive and do a comparison to see if it is worth it to you?
