Yeah...it didn't makes sense to me either...

I was using a monitor with my PB, spanning between the 2 screens. I then unplugged the monitor from the PB to take it to the other room.

The pinwheel came up for a few seconds, then it when to a full screen terminal where it was prompting me for my username, then password.

Anyone ever seen that one before??? Any ideas???
 
I sounds like you had a Kernel panic.

So far I think this is the only feature on Macs where you can't connect and disconnect when you computer is on.

The help files say to shut down your computer before connecting or disconnecting an external display. If you have other documentation that says the opposite then follow that.
