Hey,

I'm thinking what are the options to clean install upcoming El Capitan.

Well, MacBook has only one port (usb-c). Obviously I can make bootable usb and use it with usb-c -usb adapter but does MacBook enable to install OS X without connecting power supply?

Yes

I assume you only got the cheaper adapter and not the multi :)

Yeah! I have the cheaper adapter. :(

It's good to hear that it's possible to install without power but I think that I'm going to buy the multi version. I think it would be wisely use power when installing :)

I would get the multi adapter with HDMI just as it gives the extra option

If you have a fast Internet connection and don't mind downloading El Capitan twice, you could just do the regular upgrade install of EC over top of Yosemite and that would give you a EC recovery partition. Then command-r boot to the now EC recovery partition and erase the drive then reinstall. That would be a clean install of EC.

Does the Internet recovery option default to your original purchase OSX, your recovery partition OSX or the latest OSX ?

Internet recovery will always revert back to what shipped from the factory. But the disk based recovery partition will reinstall whatever version the partition is on. So a Yosemite recovery partition would give you Yosemite and an EC partition would give you EC for example.

Stupid question

Why twice and is it any difference to do install guiding your way or installing via bootable usb stick?

The first (upgrade) install will put the El Capitan recovery partition on there. Then you command-r boot to the El Capitan recovery partition and erase the drive and install again. This gets you the clean install you are after.

Make sense? Or am I not explaining it well?

The end result is the same as booting from the USB key installer and erasing the drive then installing El Capitan.

It is just if you have a really fast Internet connection, you can accomplish the clean install you want by doing what I said without fussing with making a USB installer.

I just ordered multi adapter with hdmi :)

Ouch on price, but well done and don't leave it plugged in unnecessary as it draws power

My wife has the single adapter just to plug her fitbit in

Why it has to be a little dangly thing is beyond me where a neat block that clips on would of been a neater solution IMO
