My last iPhone was the 4s.

Since then I've been on Android and heavly invested in the Google eco system

How much can you Googlyfy an iPhone?

Plan on to keep using GMail, Google Cal, Chrome and GMaps

I know you can set Chrome to be your pasword manager.

So wondering what are your experiences of doing this?

all google apps work great and also sync well with apple apps if you want to enable them to do that

Years ago whilst on my 3GS i set up my email, calendar and contacts through Google so they synced between iPhone, iPad and i could get them on a PC via the websites. Still using it to this day them syncing to the built in apps on the phone with no issues at all. Yes you dont get Push on email but i'm not that desperate to know about emails the second i get them.

Cool, may ask you for advice if I get the 14+
Oh, I just have a 13. But when I upgrade to the 2023 phone, I’m going to do the bigger one. I like higher resolution and longer battery, even if it’s a bit bigger in my pocket

If you have a Google One sub then just be aware that it works differently on iOS. Due to Apple's app restrictions it won't do a whole phone backup - just photos a a few other things. Your new backup, should you choose to use it would be iCloud.

Also, be aware when setting up Google services (contacts, mail, calendar, etc) that Apple prefer its own so you may have to check that your iPhone is defaulting to the Google services. This is particularly a thing with contacts. iOS likes to keep them either in iOS or 'on the phone;. You won't know that until a few contacts you've entered aren't showing up in web versions of Google products.

So if I set the contacts up in on the iPhone with google, double check its still syncing with google?

Nah, just make sure when you pull it in the first time that your iPhone is not set to adding new contacts to your iCloud account or 'on my iPhone'.

sounds like it's best to refuse all the apple stuff on set and go google right from the start.
Well, some of the stuff you can't get around. If you want to install apps, you need an Apple ID, which creates an iCloud account. And if you want app data, passwords, iMessage and some other Apple stuff backed up you need iCloud or a computer.

But in general, you can use Google's services without problems.
