Do these numbers seem a little low?

running 16 GB file size test in AJA i'm getting 391.7 write, 383.9 read.

or is it normal for a 120 GB drive?

Mess around with the settings. Higher res will give higher speeds. No, I don't know why and I don't know what effect screen res has on SSD speeds. But it does.

The resolution you do the test at will affect performance.

This is because the greater the resolution, the more room there is to compress the data.

When transfering a low resolution video file, there isn't much compression available to be done, and so you see the lower speeds.

I have a vertex 3 max iops, and basically you should get 380 for both on lowest resolution to the advertised 500/550 on max.

If you get that, everything is performing correctly.
