Hopefully ends up being added, considering there'll be no LTPO display, 120hz is a must, if I'm going to upgrade from my XS max.

Hopefully the rumour of a smaller notch not coming this year isn't true, might also be a deal breaker in upgrading this year.

What benefits does a 120hz display have over the 60 we have now? What makes it a "must-have" feature?

When you scroll anything on a current or older iPhone, the screen is redrawing the display 60 times per second. To me it really bothers my eyes scrolling through anything (camera roll, text) because I can see the juddering of the display. It looks jerky to my eyes and bothers them. Gives me eye strain

In a way it's like PWM but at a much lower frequency (60hz instead of 240hz) and only happens when scrolling or during screen transition animations.

I'd LOVE a 120hz refresh display (proMotion). Way more important to me than 5G.

The plist reads "120Hz scan", which to me indicates only that the touch layer pulls in at 120Hz, as it already does now.
While I agree that 120Hz screen refresh is a nice addition I consider an 10bit panel upgrade the far better option if I had to choose. It would supplement a great camera setup and as such is properly a far more appealing option for most customers. While many play games which profit hugely from a higher Hertz screen, nearly all would profit from advanced camera capabilities, which going by my judgement is in line with a 10bit panel. While 120Hz does affect basic task like scrolling visibly as well, its more of a nice to have upgrade in this context rather than a functional one.

It's like dipping your display in butter. Everything is so much smoother that it's ridiculous. It's very hard to go back to a lower refresh rate after using 120 Hz.

i guess it depends on the person. I personally notice no difference between my iPad Air2 and my iPad Pro when scrolling

Refresh rate is noticeable...difference from going through twitter on your iPhone to your iPad is quite big for me.

many who have 120hz will say it’s hard to go back t0 60hz...i would say with how smooth iPhones are when it gets 120hz it will be blazing fast.

I wouldn’t say I don’t notice it, it’s definitely noticeable, but it’s by no means a game changer. To me the biggest palpable benefit of 120Hz is when using the pencil.

Indeed.

My main reason for wanting 120Hz is that more apps and games will embrace it once Apple do it on their phones.

After using it on other phones and then using the iPhone again it definitely makes it feel laggy by comparison. So I'm very much looking forward to this.
I agree for sure. It makes the iPhone feel obsolete. I have an 11 but if the 12 has it I’ll probably upgrade

My only concern is battery life, they better ensure we get equal if not better battery than the amazing battery life the 11 Pro Max gets.

No point in 120Hz if battery life takes a hit, they better put some big batteries in the 12 series of phones because having both 5G and 120Hz is going to mean a lot more power consumption.

It quite like 2G, 3G, 4G, then 5G... Once you have experienced the successor's speed, the predecessors look like a snail! With speed & smoothness in its corner, the overall package of the 120Hz screen offers amazing user-experience.

Mix that with the ease of iOS, it seems like a win-win situation. However, the battery could pose a significant issue and Apple has to minutely plan everything to balance them both.

Having the S20 and 120hz enabled i can say without a shadow of a doubt it definitely makes the scrolling through feeds etc smoother but thats it! Its not a game changing feature. 120HZ only really comes in to its own for gaming and video(if they support it).

How many of us actually read something as we're scrolling? I know I don't, i scroll, stop, then read, so on that basis it doesn't really serve any purpose other than a little eye candy. Don't get me wrong it's certainly a feature i appreciate but it's not something on it's own that will have me upgrading my 11 Pro for.

The difference between my S20 and 11 Pro is obvious but not something that detracts from the latter's use.

Just my opinion.

If 120Hz/Promotion actually happens to the iPhone 12, that probably would be a significant provocation for me to want to upgrade. But I would need some ‘real time‘ demos first to see how beneficial this would be to me, [even though I think we all know it’s totally doable], given the iPad Pro has had this for years now.
