OK I know what we need!


WE NEED A WIDGET!

Can one of you mac brains make a 10.4 widget that will constantly keep my score on my desktop or menu bar? Or maybe one on the bar with a pull down with overtake and summary as well.

Make it free for MR team mbrs and shareware for the rest of the folders!
 
Well, it should be that hard consider that all the mirror sites like extremeoverclocking are able to pull stat data from the main site. I don't know much about the widget programming, but I can see how something like that could be done even without widgets.



Also, I would like to mention that your 'tar is on the list of '10 Most Disturbing Things I've Ever Seen'.

That would be a cool Widget indeed, even though my own folding productivity sucks @$$. The CPU power required to run the Widget would probably put me in negative numbers.

And you are correct in regards to that 'tar. The first time I saw it, it really freaked me out. Make it go away, stubeeef

well tiger is almost here, any folding score widget available yet?
 
was just checking apple's website for widgets, still no folding widget, who here will be the famous writer of a folding widget for our team to use with tiger?

It would be the sole most best reason I would find to upgrade, other than 10.4.1
 
I'm seriously considering making one. I may not have the skill to make one, and someone might beat me to the "first" widget, but please know that I'm thinking about this task... :cool:

Something things to consider:

Extreme Overclocking wont allow someone to use their folding data unless it's for personal use.

If I use data from an existing site, such as Extreme Overclocking or Stanford's, I probably can't charge shareware fees, right? Would it even be right to "borrow" data from a site if they don't explicitly say otherwise?
 
First time i see this thread but i was thinking the same thing.
I think EO allows you to use the xml file. link
It talks about a app 'Coolmon' which apparently is able to do this. Yes i've been looking in to the possibilities of creating one already :p.

A widget displaying team and user ranking, last points, todays points and some more looks very possible. Threats and overtake warnings look hard to implement or you would have to calculate themselves (by downloading all team users data by the widget or on a server).

I'll maybe give the widget making a shot by the end of the week, if someone would like to start, i'm happy to help.

I'll keep you posted.

edit: shareware? nah, make it freeware, and give EO credit for hosting such a nice stat site for the widget.
Getting data from Stanford's servers is not even worth thinking about (1 big txt file/user) EO is really doing all the work.

edit2: what the heck, i'll try to mail EO and ask them if a widget would bother them

Is there a way for the widget to accept your info only, go and query just your stuff (automator?)
by my question you can tell I don't have a clue, not a computer person, that 's why I use apple.

That's what i was thinking about,
IF i get a positive response from EO i might ask them to provide a way to list threats and overtakes as well.
Listing just your info is the easy part (i hope :rolleyes: )

Nice idea...the widget should also show the score of the MR team for non folders....just as info ;)

And for the 'tar' it is freaky but kind of cool :rolleyes: :p
