I recently saw a poll on who preferred an aluminum back and who a glass, and that started me thinking - how do you guys feel about the shape of the back? Some people want it to return to a curved shape, like the iPhone original, 3G and 3GS. Some want the back to stay the way it is on the iPhone 4. Some want something in between.

Which one would you rather have?

I think the final product will have a very slightly curved back. Nothing major like the 3GS but nothing as flat as the 4.

I prefer the flat back like the iPhone 4. I hate how the 3G and the 3Gs phones wobble when on a table.

I want iPad 2 like back

Do people actually use their phones flat on the table that much? I'm just curious as I have a 3GS and the roundness has never bothered me. Until people started talking about it on ms rumors I never noticed it.

I usually don't, mostly it is to check something quickly, one or two taps at the most. I found the wobble annoying.

I would like a flat back so that it doesn't wobble when on a table but with rounded edges to make it more comfortable to hold.

Completely flat means you can put on protectors that dont get dust under them and bubble up over time.

Didn't matter what protectors I used on my 3gs they always ended up getting dust and bubbling up around the rounded corners (thus ruined).

I also don't like it when a phone wobbles.

I hope it's curved. For my big mitts it just is easier to hold and use. To make sure I often handle my cubemate's iPhone 4 and I know I'd not like the iPhone 5 should it have the same back. Will probably still get it, but won't like it.

I would like to see the iPhone like it is now except with the front and back glass utilizing beveled edges. I like how the iPhone 4 sits flat when laid down on a surface unlike the 3GS. Additionally, I wouldn't mind to have a more rounded feel with beveled edges on the glass.

Problem with curved like the original iPhone is it's a really dated look. Not sure where Apple can go from the iPhone 4 to keep a modern fresh look.

Flat

Flat is just more practical. I remember when I got my ipad1 and placed it on a table, only to find that it was unstable due to the "Bulge". The 2 is much better with it's flat back and thinner design.

Mind you whatever shape the new phone has, we will almost all end up covering up it's looks with protective cases. I know I will :)

For some reason I find the 4 rather edgy/sharp. I quite like the 3s shape..

I believe though that Apple won't go back and that is fair.

It will probably will be something in between, like and iPod Touch or new iPad perhaps...

I'd really like it to have a slightly curved back. Not as much as the 3Gs, more like the back on the original iPad. Enough that it will sit flush with my hand in a natural position, but not too much that it will seesaw back and forth noticeably on aflat surface.
