Given MobileMe is going and iWeb is EOL I'd like to replace iWeb with something.

I know the basics of HTML but I wanted something like iWeb for ease of use.

The gallery creation ability + adding Google Maps is the minimum I'd need.

If I could be bothered i'd code something myself, but I can't :p

Ideas?

Wordpress
+Nextgen Gallery plugin
+MapPress plugin (for Google Maps integration)

all free

There's always Sandvox at: http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/

The've got some good videos to help get you started.

Nah, this isn't what I want, tried it before.

Thanks anyway.

Will give it a go.

There is also (as we all probably know by now) Muse from Adobe
(beta at http://muse.adobe.com/ ).

This, if it was finished, would be awesome.

However currently it's buggy and missing loads of features.

*sigh*

I might just stick with iWeb and upload it to a FTP server instead.

Great option although it does require a bit more involved setup than iWeb and RapidWeaver plus if you don't want a blog style site you're looking at lots of customization. Having said that, Wordpress is the best when it comes to blogging.

Nice app, but far more limited than iWeb.

Annoyingly, I wanted to go back to iWeb.

However since I upgraded to Lion I can't find my iLife disk or iWeb anywhere!

Rapidweaver is so expensive is ridiculous.
Edit: And bloody useless.

Why isn't there an app like iWeb ffs. :(

I'm a Rapidweaver fan. It's far more SEO friendly than iWeb.

How would you go about making this then:

http://concorde-photos.co.uk/stuff/test/Photos.html

It took me all of 5 minutes from scratch to get that done and uploaded.

All that is missing (but would take all of a drag and drop) is to add a youtube video.

None of the other apps I could fathom how to do that. :(

Sandvox has themes that you can't adjust the width of, WTF is up with that?

First person to mimic that page with their chosen software wins.

Additional points go to anyone who can get it looking like this:

http://www.concorde-photos.co.uk/gallery/

(I.e. rounded corners, modern, etc).

Once I can see the software can do what I want then I will jump ship.

I'm not terribly interested in winning. I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm simply replied with a benefit of RW over iWeb because you said you were looking for a replacement.

Quite frankly, if you're happy with iWeb, there really isn't a compelling reason to give it up yet. I wouldn't let the EOL thing scare you away. It hasn't really been advanced in 3-5 years, aside from a few built in "widgets" that were easy enough to implement as HTML snippets. They didn't even add any new themes in the last release.

But, to answer your question: I probably wouldn't. Personally, I've never been a big fan of the look of photo albums in iWeb. I always linked to my MobileMe Gallery instead. Now that those are gone, and I'm actually selling prints/downloads, I like to a Zenfolio account. I couldn't consider something a little more modern, using some kind of Javascript/Ajax lightbox type of code.

But if I really wanted to emulate the iWeb albums, I'd look though the plugins on the Rapidweaver site. I spent about 30 seconds there, and found one that is similar:

http://www.smackie.org/software/rapidalbum/

In the "demos" section, select "Galleria". It's not a perfect replica, but somewhat close for 30 seconds of searching. Look around, you might find something that's a closer match, if you're interested in going that direction.

Here's another one that's along the same lines:

http://symfonip.com/products/gallerybox.php

There's also some really cool stuff in Fancy Image Stacks:

http://joeworkman.net/rapidweaver/stacks/fancy-image-bundle/

You can buy one effect, rather than the whole bundle.

But, in the end, if you really like iWeb, I see no compelling reason to switch.

I hope this helps.

Also, if you upload your photos to other places (Facebook, Flickr, Picassa, etc.), there are plugins available that allow you to automatically include those photos in the albums on your site, without having to manually upload them to both places. I've never used one myself, but I've heard good things about them.

Does anyone think a host like GoDaddy will have someone make an app for the Mac App Store? It sure looks like this would be a cash cow. Simple editor/designer with in-app purchase for hosting fees? Basically an exact replica of iWeb, but run by GoDaddy.

Another vote for rapdiweaver, its the closest thing to iWeb but without the limitations of iWeb. While thje OP complained about the expense of some of the plug-ins they really do extend the power of RapidWeaver and in many cases worth the cost

Please Steve before you go. Can we have our iWeb back:D

Never going to happen, iWeb was apple's attempt at a social site, galleries/home pages etc. Once Facebook took root, iWeb was superfluous. that's not to say its not usable but from a corporate strategic decision it no longer mattered

I changed to Rapidweaver a few months ago and no looking back. It's far more flexible that Iweb and you can add the plugins as you need them.
