Post your cases' weight to the growing iPad case weight list. Make sure to state for iPad 1 or 2. ;)

This has never been an issue for me as I can see if the case is thick and protective, it's gonna weigh more and if it's micro thin, it's less. I use both, but no case weight has been a distraction.

This thread is meant to simply collect case weights, not to pinpoint shortcomings of cases.

iPad 2 Logitech Zagg keyboard case/cover ... 11.25 oz.

Very light. Very thin. Great protection. Greatly extends iPad2's usefulness.

All aluminum tray shape with full black keyboard and secure slot to hold iPad2 at perfect typing angle. Battery lasts for couple weeks, bluetooth reaches into next room. Greatest investment ever for the iPad2! Adds imperceptible width to the iPad2 when iPad2 lays face down onto bumpers. Snug fit, no wobble. Protects all corners. Outstanding accessory. :D

That is a great solution for iPad on the go for laptop-like functionality especially when the battery lasts for a few weeks and weighs much less than mbp. It may possibly replace my on-the-go solution in the future. Thanks for the input.

Anyone with FIELDFOLIO's weight measurement? Post here. It looks awesome.

Here's some additional weights.

iPad 1
Monoprice TPU back cover = 0.296 lb

iPad 2
Incase Magazine Jacket = 0.400 lb
Griffin iPad 2 Case = 0.287 lb
Monoprice iPad 2 PC back case = 0.242 lb
Monoprice iPad Screen Protector = 0.015 lb
Monoprice iPad 2 deluxe case (my personal favorite) = 0.399 lb

I like this thread as a heavy case is definitely a big drawback for me. I don't have any scales to weigh my case but would like to know the weight of a couple of cases if anyone out there has them and a way to weigh them:

Speck Pixelskin (iPad 2 great case but oh so heavy. The new version is supposed to be thinner and lighter but their techs won't give any specs on it or even the weight on the old one when asked)

Griffin Intellicase (seems that this case would be about as light as they get - the case is extremely slim)
DMK - what Griffin case are you referring to at 0.287?

Seriously? Why?

I think it's silly, that's why. Who besides a meth lab operator have a scale that measures to a hundredth of a pound? Who can perceive the difference between 0.175 and 0.165 in the real world?

What's next? The typing speed increase from cutting our fingernails? Bump in wind resistance from shaving the hairs off our knuckles? Reduction in blink-fatigue from removing our eyelashes?

I think this is a very good idea for a thread. I'd love to know the weight of the Moko Premium Slim and the Switcheasy Canvas.

The weight difference between the two will be equivalent to a stick of gum, not going to be noticeable or influence your buying decision. Here's a real-world quick guide to cover weights:

Very Heavy: Apple Smart Cover and any keyboard folios.

Heavy: All leather-look folios with integrated easel-type stands.

Slightly Heavy: All sleeves.

Light: All back-only cases made from TPU.

Very Light: All back shells made from thin plastics.

Imperceptible: All back decals and screen protectors.

That's all you need to know. Put your micrometers and atomic scales away.

The Objective of this Thread

The objective of this thread is to simply collect weights of iPad cases and thus to give you a new perspective on cases available online.

While the internet allows access to diverse collection of iPad cases, we are often not well informed of products before online transaction is made. Ideally one should examine what you want to buy in person before you purchase.

I've started this thread as my way of contributing to MacRumors community (I read posts but do not post much unless absolutely necessary.). No doubt MacRumors iPad Accessories thread is a great place to exchange opinions about the accessories based on user experiences. However, there was no consolidated list of accessories that are available. So I made one with fixed attribute most case makers post clearly, the weight.

We all want a good looking functional case. Choose any case that works for you. Don't let the numerical weight value sway your decision too much. The list is just a reference.

For me, Apple Smart Cover is good enough. It is a lightweight cover however, it provides almost no protection. So there always is a trade off.

I encourage you to post here with weight value if you have a case to share with fellow MacRumors members.
