Does anyone know of a good app to download (for free) off Version Tracker or something that is a basic equivalent of Paint?

Basically, I just need something that I can edit jpgs with, particularly wallpapers, to remove ads and such in order to simplify them.

The simpler the program, the better.

Thanks.

I have long searched for such a program but to no avail. If anyone knows of one though that woulkd be GREAT!

It's not free (although it is included with PowerMacs and PowerBooks), but Graphic Converter is quite good. I find that it's good enough for pretty much all of my simple day to day image editing. It's a LOT more advanced than MS Paint. It's $30 and there's more information here.

I think that jtsimler3 is looking for something that can open in .3 seconds, and has nothing to navigate around to slap colors on a canvas.

Graphic converter is a lot more scary than paint.

Don't know of any free programs, but there is AppleWorks. You can make paint documents in there.

Actually, what I wanted to get done was incredibly easy to figure out. It worked exactly like Paint. It does look like somewhat more of a daunting program, but for what I need it to do right now, it works.

I feel incredibly stupid. I had no idea I already had that program. :)

Thanks a lot for everyone's help.

You're talking about Graphic Converter, right?

Slightly OT... but Graphic Converter... Just imagine the guy adding CoreImage to it.

From what I can tell of the guy that writes Graphic Converter, he's really a good developer, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him start using Core Image in Graphic Converter. In fact, I think it's pretty likely.

He must be a great developer judging from graphic converter. I mean if you really think about it the piece of software is pretty amazing, I mean it will basically open ANY kind of image format you throw at it and deal with it just fine. Just look at the list of formats you can export to in it, there is some crazy formats in there. :)

This sounds interesting:

Seashore is an open source image editor for Cocoa. It features gradients, textures and anti-aliasing for both text and brush strokes. It supports multiple layers and alpha channel editing. It is based around the GIMP's technology and uses the same native file format.

This might be just the ticket. I downloaded it and it was too simple for my tastes, but it would probably work just fine for what the original poster asked about.

Do you have a direct link where I can download X11? I'm downloading GIMP right now to try it out.

X11 is part of the panther install. You just need to check the option to install it when you install the OS.
