Trip to New York

I'm going over next month for my first visit. Staying in Manhattan. Apart from the obvios tourist spots, where is cool to visit? I'm going to catch a gig in Brooklyn (Williamsburg Waterfront) and so will spend a day there.

If its your thing you should check out the art gallery district in the western part of Chelsea. High Line park is in the same area.

I've booked flights to visit a friend in Toronto in June, and we were thinking of trying to visit New York for a few days - I've never been out of Europe 😱

Any suggestions as to where to stay? Preferably somewhere that's good value (in other words, cheap).

FDR's Library and Museum. Sorry, but as a history nut that would be a must see for me.
