Thought the recent Airport patch would do the trick.

But nearly 2 months into Lion Apple is still unable to solve a most basic problem many face:

One has to manually login into Wi-Fi each time the computer restarts or wakes up.

At least here, on a MBA 13" 2011.

Sometimes even have to retype the password.

Ridiculous.

Many suggestions are available online how to repair the problem. Wait for another patch or 10.7.2, or do a clean reinstall of network settings?

Oh yes it is a problem!!

54 pages, over 800 replies and 85,000 views of this tread illustrate that there is a problem.

"Lion Wi-Fi Connection Problem" over at Apple itself:

Finally, this did the trick, via Apple Support:

Open System Preferences.
Click Network.
Select the Wi-Fi interface and click the Advanced button.
Click the TCP/IP tab.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Sleep and wake the computer to test.
Click the Wi-Fi tab of the advanced AirPort interface (in System Preferences -> Network -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced).
View the customer's Preferred Networks list.
Remove each Preferred Network from the list by selecting that network and clicking the minus (-) button.
Remove stored AirPort network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities.
Remove all AirPort network passwords from the login keychain.
Remove all AirPort network passwords from the System keychain.
Note: The above steps will remove your customer's Wi-Fi network passwords. If the customer does not know them or if their network does not use passwords to restrict access, have the customer contact their network administrator before performing these steps.
Navigate to /Library/Preferences and move the System Configuration folder to the desktop. Important: Do not move this folder to the Trash and do not delete this folder.
Restart the computer.
Join the Wi-Fi network. The customer will need to enter their password for their network again, if it requires one.

What's the purpose of the above step? Dragging the folder to the desktop will only copy it and won't remove the original folder.

likewise, am i really supposed to keep a folder there for the rest of the life of my mac? that is very odd.

This is just a safety copy of the folder, after you got a copy on your desktop delete the original folder in its original location.

After restarting the folder should automatically recreate itself.

After reboot check if a new folder has been created at the original location, then delete the backup folder on desktop.

I am very disappointed with apple!

They started to deliver unfinished products like Microsoft always does with windows crap!!

I have tried all suggested solutions in apple forums with no success..

Have to wait on 10.7.2 as I've read from developers that it is fixed.

I've tried 10.7.2 and it has NOT fixed the wifi issue.

I'm on the same machine and never have such wifi problem from day 0. Except it sometime doesn't reconnect to my iphone hotspot after falling asleep. But since i don't use hotspot so much, it doesn't really bother me too much.

Have you tried to reset your PRAM?

Well we're all happy for you, as you can see lots and lots of people are have having this problem. Not because they don't know how to start up their Mac, but because of some OS issue.

Most amazing: Apple still considers it to be a non-issue.

But once you call Apple support, they immediately have a solution at hand, meaning they're all too aware of the problem.

I like Lion. I think the changes made, are well worth the $30.

That being said... how did Apple manage to screw up so much, by changing so little?
