I was getting ready to make a sarcastic reply, but I then took the time to read the link and for some reason this stood out,

The symbolism works well too: iPhone 5, iOS 5, October 5.

The iPad 2 was also announced on Wednesday March 2nd, so the iPhone 5 being announced on Wednesday Oct 5th could be possible. We'll just have to wait and see.

If anything it will launch on October 5th. I doubt they will wait that long to have the event.

Edit: nvm.

I thought so, I checked my calendar just in case (I thought I was wrong).

There's no way event will be on October 5th. Something (at least some thing) has got to happen in September. No kidding.

yeah this rumor is a bunch of crap.. iOS 5, iPhone 5, October 5th? I think someone is just guessing and they would never do that.

Awesome. After all the rumors pushing it back, it's great to have a rumor move it forward. The less time the better!

Interesting theory...an iPhone 5, with IOS 5, with an A5 processor, on 5 October....

I'm still thinking Invites Sept. 21 - Event Sept. 28th.

But I still hope invites go out during this time.

To further speculate on this theory.

Invitations could be sent out on Sept 28th, with an event and GM release of iOS 5 on October 5th, a public release of iOS 5 on October 10th and a release of a new iPhone on October 14th.

Now I'll explain why.

This year Apple held an event on Wednesday March 2nd for the iPad 2 and released iOS 4.3 GM the following day on March 3rd, then just 10 days later released the new iPad 2 on March 11th along side iOS 4.3 to the public. Now if this same schedule were to happen to the iPhone 5, a release just 10 days after being announced, this could lead to the same situations the iPad 2 was in with no reversions or pre-orders allowed.

Current rumors have suggested that the iPhone 5 could be in short supply well into 2012, kind of like the iPad 2 was for the first few months.

The person could not say with any certainty what will be released on that Monday, but noted that the increase in call volume is related to iOS. This led them to speculate that Apple could release iOS 5 and iCloud on Oct. 10.

October 15th falls on a Saturday, which would be an unusual launch date for Apple, which prefers to launch its new iPhone models on Thursdays or Fridays. Consequently, some have suggested Friday, October 14th as the most likely date for a debut,

Seems plausible. Although I think another reason Apple may be drawing out the release a bit longer is because they want to try and get a few more (and by a few I mean thousands) iPhone 5 devices produced before the release. I was able to wait a month for my iPad 2 to arrive, so I could do the same for the iPhone 5, but I'd rather not have to do that.

Just the lack of event news, mailers etc... that always makes me suspicious of the date. But the whole Oct 5th, iOS5, iPhone 5 makes a lot of sense.

I will do everything in my power to buy the phone on launch day. That is if it's actually a new phone and not a warmed over iPhone 4. I sure hope the case mate and WSJ articles are correct. I do so much on my phone I really want/need the larger screen.

so dont count on hearing anything till october about iOS 5 and iPhone 5 release? the invite, event, release.
