Can you:

Leave the TB display on
USB/FW/TB drive plugged in
Ethernet plugged into router

NO computer


and still read the drives over the wi-fi network?
 
The ATD is not a computer. Just because the display is plugged in, it still needs to plug into a computer before the ports will work.

I know. I was just thinking of the anandtech teardown/review where he mentions that everything is essentially there to very nearly have a computer. I suppose the TBD could be considered an iMac without a CPU.

A NAS should work (but then of course you would just plug it direct into the router)
