connecting through that chat is an anonymous web-based interface. if you type "/nick YOURNICKHERE" and press enter, it will change your nick name.

alternatively, you can download a dedicated IRC client (Colloquy linked in the OP, Adium, Linkius, etc.).

Yes certainly! Colloquy is probably the best to purchase, Or if you just want to try out IRC go to webchat.mr-irc.com and log in as a guest

Seems to be working okay now. Although the password I had that did work before for my nickname no longer works.
