So will the newly announce 4S enable me to 'talk and surf the web at the same time' on the Verizon network?

If I understand right, no, since that is a technical limitation of CDMA networks, not the phone.

Nowadays it's only a (common) phone limitation.

If a phone has a chipset that supports SVDO, it can do voice+data at the same time. The HTC Thunderbolt is an example.

The main reason we don't see it on the iPhone is because it has a chipset that supports CDMA + GSM. AFAIK, right now the only SVDO chipsets are those that support CDMA or CDMA + LTE (no GSM).

OK . . . But isn't that 'surf and talk' capability the 'promise' of the iPhone 5 for The Verizon network and users?
