Checking in to see if anyone has observed this behavior.

I bought the Thunderbolt Display to use with my work MacBook Pro 13", at the office. The MBP is used to run various presentations using the DisplayPort VGA adapter. It works fine most of the time, occasionally may need a reseat or may have an issue detecting certain monitors or projectors.

I noticed recently that the MBP is not very keen on the way I operate with the Thunderbolt Display. It seems to be less and less intuitive when changing resolutions. Because the MBP is closed when the Thunderbolt Display is active, I have no way of verifying that it's disconnected from the display properly.

The other day I had disconnected it from the Display while in sleep mode, took it to an appointment and tried to attach it to a standard VGA monitor. It wouldn't show a picture, even with disconnecting and reattaching the VGA adapter, even with "Detect Displays". It saw the monitor, but wouldn't show anything on it. Then it locked up, forcing me to power button it to shut it down. Fortunately I've got an SSD, so it takes a few seconds to reboot and I was able to BS my way past embarrassment. But I'd like to get to the happy medium I expected where such things don't ever happen.

So what I do now is power the MBP down whenever I'm taking it away from the Display. But as fast as that is, it's annoying, especially if I've got apps running that I don't want to close and re-open. Also, when I reconnect it to the Thunderbolt Display, I have no (known) way of powering the MBP on in the closed position.

Has anyone else observed this type of behavior?
