I heard it only works the other way round - iP4 to iPad...but try it anyway.

If you put your iPhone microsim into the iPad AT&T (in the USA will send you a warning and the next time they deactivate your data for the rest of the month). So don't do it that way.

Yeah, while I see why folks would want to do that, my question here is if it's possible to do the opposite: put an iPad 3G sim into an unlocked iPhone 4S.
 
Well my mothers iPhone has a iPad micro Sim in it, but she has it linked to our account as a phone, and not an iPad. So I don't know if it will work for sure.
