Best Software to rip Dvds

I'm looking for a program to rip dvds onto my harddisk in the format I can watch on my computer,avi I guess.

I want to be able to just get the movie from the DVD but also be able to choose which subtitle I want to rip over the movie.

Ay suggestions?
 
Does it work with Lion and would it allow me to also rip the subtitles and not losing quality from the video?

It will rip subtitles and will also result in good quality rips.
Just choose one of the presets (Apple TV, Normal).

Yes, it works with Lion

If you want a rip without encoding, you should try RipIt or Mac DVDRipper Pro

Look at the first GUIDE I linked to.
Video DVDs use a codec which results in big files, thus DVDs with up to 8.5GB capacity are used to store one movie and some extras.
To get smaller files, you use HandBrake (and a ripper of your choice) to transcode those big files to smaller ones.

Btw, there are literally hundreds of threads covering this exact subject.
 
So I need a ripper to get the video ts and audio ts files then the handbrake to get them smaller,just video files?
