An Illinois man was arrested early yesterday after he called 911 on several occasions to complain that his iPhone was not working.

Michael Alan Skopec, 48, dialed police emergency operators five times to beef about his malfunctioning Apple product, according to a Kendall County Sheriff’s Office report.

Cops traced the calls to Skopec’s home, where he was arrested around 1 AM yesterday when he “refused to comply with orders from deputies,” according to a sheriff’s spokesperson. Skopec, pictured in the above mug shot, was charged with obstructing or resisting a peace officer, a misdemeanor.

It is unclear what Skopec thought cops could do about his malfunctioning smartphone (though deputies did report that he was intoxicated when they arrived at his residence). Released on his own recognizance, Skopec is next due in court on November 18.

I think they should sentence the guy to 1 year of having all 911 calls routed through his iPhone. Every time someone calls 911 in his town, his iPhone would ring, with the Crazy Frog ringtone, full volume, mute disabled, and the phone must be with him at all times. Seems fair.

Emergencies are in the eyes of the beholder ;-).

I worried this guy has made an honest mistake. If you were really intoxicated it could be easy to mistake MAC part of the 133MAC number as a 911 if the phone was upside down and he mistook the 1 for a 2 and when the cops came he got upset as you do when consuming large amounts of alcohol with a malfunctioning iPhone and Apple gets the cops to come around and hassle you.

I don't think we should be jumping to conclusions when this could just be a simple drunken mistake.

Wow that's a dumb reason to call the police. No wonder he was arrested.

The last one has got to be the dumbest.

And this story, kiddies, shows why one mustn't drink to excess or take drugs. M'k? ;)

Man Arrested After Calling 911 To Complain About His Broken iPhone
It's okay, I'm out now.

I was a little drunk, holding my iPhone upside down, dialed 911 instead of 611.
