Hello,

I have a iphone4 on At&t. Ran out of warranty on June 2011.

About 1-2 weeks ago, i realized i had to press extremely hard on my lock button. One day, it wouldnt even work.

I made an appointment with Apple and the Genius looked at it. He said its a mechanical defect and we have to give you a new phone. When he put in my serial number, obviously he saw i was out of warranty.

Told me i had to pay $150 +tax to get a new phone.

What i dont understand is even i didnt do anything to it and the Genius said it is a mechanical defect, why should I pay for YOUR problem?

Anyway, he told me i could replace the button on my own by going to ifixit.

I bought the button and had my brother replace it. My phone works, but the button still isnt working. Its still stuck. It doesnt "click."

I am so sick of my iphone right now i am NOT paying $150 for THEIR problem.

What should i do? The Genius told me to get this part....

Why wouldn't you have to pay for a replacement? If you're out of warranty then you're out of warranty, Apple has no obligation to replace your phone for free once that year is up. Also, I don't think you can really undertake any action in regards to the Genius telling you to go the route you did, as you probably don't have any proof (I'm assuming he didn't hand you a written document declaring you do this).
