128GB disk, how much free space can I expect?

Hi everyone.

I have a few questions related to the disk size of 128Gb, because I never had a Mac before I'm not aware of the free space and size of typical programs.

1. When I receive an air 128GB, how much free space will be available?

2. Typically programs, as office, Parallels with windows 7 running, etc etc. how much space is used by them?

3. In your case, if you want to say what type of stuff you have in your disk and free space remaining.

I went to my local Best Buy to answer this question. The hard drive was formatted around 120GB of actual space to use. I can't answer your other questions.
 
I assume the formatted space would be around 115-120gb.

Parralels should ask you houw much space you want to attribute to windows. In my case, I use VMware Fusion. my VM is about 40gb. As far as apps go My application folder is 8gb. I don't have many third party apps.
 
I'd say at a rough guess, around the 100GB mark. The formatting should take a chunk out of it, and then you have the OS X Lion installation and any programs you want to install as standard.
 
I've been doing reinstalls of OSX on my 2010 MBA to debug a problem, and the formatted space, with nothing installed, on a 128 gig SSD, is 120 gigs.

OP didn't ask about the formatted amount. He asked how much free space he would have available.
 
This question has been answered in at least two other threads over the past two weeks already, so you guys were arguing for no real reason. :D

Ok, I get it, 99Gb out-of-the-box or 120Gb if I uninstall some program as iWork and so on.

tks. i was sure that this is an subject probably talked in lots of topics, but I search without any valid result.
 
If you reinstall mac OS X from the recovery partition can you customize the install i.e. not install iphoto etc?

Seeing 128Gb is only about 16GB, you're looking at maybe 6GB of free space :p

(And with a 128GB drive, mine came with about 100GB of free space)
 
100 out of box, after a day of usage, installing updates, steam and some indie games, itunes backup of ipod, videos now have about 60gb free. new external drive coming soon :)
 
I was thinking of going 256gb but now i'm planning to go for 128gb first since it should last me for quite some time, then upgrade it again when OWC releases the new SSD for 2012 airs since it should be cheaper?

Can someone tell me, the approximate space i'll get when the macbook air is loaded with the OSX + iLife (which should already be in the air when you purchase it, right)?
 
About 110GBs for me, but...

I run a 32GB Parallels, Virtual Machine. I also have an Aperture library, iTunes library, Evernote, DevonThink database, two Bible software with probably around 100 resources associated with them, Office 2011, a couple mind mapping programs and probably 20-25 GBs of PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, Word documents and spreadsheets from work. So I have a 256GB MBA and I typically ran with about 110-120GB free. (Actually "had" as I upgraded to the 2012 model.)
 
I can understand 256Gb, but I really can't understand a $400 difference. SSD drives are cheaper these days. For example, Crucial 512GB is going for $320-350 in the last couple of weeks. So why Apple is charging $400 for only 128GB more? Is it because the name APPLE? Otherwise, I can't get it.

P.S. I bought the 256GB just because I didn't have any other option. I need several virtual machines, and 128GB would have killed me.
