Hi, I just wondered which one would charge the iP4S the fastest? The Official wallcharger or a docking station,

Thanks :apple:

wall charger vs. docking station will depend on where the docking station is linked up to. Is the docking station plugged into the wall or to the computer? And is the wall charger for the iphone or ipad? If you have an iPad wall charger, that'd be the best.

The charge speed is only dependent on the source (AC or USB) the official cable and the dock serve only as connectors to the iphone and won't make a difference.

I'm pretty sure the phone pulls 1 amp/5 volts regardless of how it's plugged in.

Probably also depends what country you live in .... here in the UK a 240v wall socket is always going to charge faster than a connection to a Mac

Damn, i voted on the wrong thing, it should have been the "wall charger" so my 1 vote on the dock is wrong hehe. Too bad you can't edit a vote.

No, USB from a computer will draw a maximum of 500mAh at 5v because that is how usb-ports are designed on any computer.

A wallcharger for the iPhone is however 1Ah/5V.

So what we can conclude from this is that it should be pretty much twice as fast to charge with a wall charger.

The voltage isn't important when it comes to charging, not in the manner of what you got from the wall. So that doesn't matter if it's 20volts, 110volts or 10000volts, it's still being output at 5volts to be able to charge the battery, the amperage is what determines on how fast the charge is going to be.

If we got a battery rated at 1Ah at 5volts and then plug in a charger that outputs 1Ah at 5volts it would take about 1hour to charge the battery, if we instead used a 500mAh at 5volt output to charge it, it would take 2hours.

Just as 250mAh at 5volt would take 4hours or 2Ah at 5volts would take 30mins for a 1Ah battery. So therefor the voltage output MUST be whatever the battery needs to charge, then you can do the math on the Ah yourself :) So there is no questions like "what if we charged it with 10v at 1Ah?" because that won't even work (or well, it could practically work, but it will most likely damage it or the likelihood will be too high to even think about it), just saying just in case anyone goes ahead and asks this kind of question, so there it is.

The 4S battery is rated at approximately 1400mAh (1.4Ah) btw..
