Just wondering if there's any pattern to what people are getting back. So, what did you send and what did you receive?

Thanks for voting!

I would have left off the "Still Waiting" options, and just had those people wait until they weren't waiting. :) That's going to skew the results of the poll, as most people are still waiting, and, won't, I don't think, allow them to change their vote when they do receive their replacement.

Thanks. Good point. I didn't realize that until too late.

That said, some "hunches" I was trying to investigate were:
  • Are folks sending lower capacity devices getting their replacements first?
  • Are folks sending non-working devices being served first?
  • Are folks sending non-working devices more likely to get a quick upgrade to a 6th gen?
  • Are folks sending working devices more likely to get identical 1st gens back?
  • Are folks sending 4gb units (ie, more expensive, originally) more likely to get a more valuable device back? (One wag in another thread was speculating he might get a MacBook air :) if he was kept waiting long enough!)

I'm interested in all the above, as I entered my details for a fully working 4gb very early online on the first day (11/12) but I'm still waiting to hear what my replacement will be.

Sent in 4gb 1 white & 1 black....our replacement 6 gens are due to arrive 12/27...was hoping for a xmas eve surprise.

Apple will never send out 16GB replacements.

Exactly, The most we will get is 8gigs. That is plenty and very generous from Apple...

I received my 6th Generation 8 gigs a few days ago. Great unit...

:apple:

I sent in my 2GB Nano 1G about two weeks ago, and got the FedEx notice this morning it was at the depot, sorted and waiting to be delivered next Tuesday. Called FedEx to confirm that the depot is open today, went down and picked it up this morning.

I received 8 GB Nano 6G in exchange for a 5-6 year old 2GB Nano 1G, so to me this is a very generous Christmas present from Apple. Apple didn't have to do this, and it may have been cheaper just to honor lifetime battery replacement that to recall every Nano 1G.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree that 8gb will be the limit since (presumably) those production lines are still running.

What's interesting from the 24 responses so far is that everyone who has their replacement (14 votes) got a 6th gen, but not one person got a 1st gen. In a way, I'm hoping for a pristine 1st gen myself - since I like the form factor, audio quality and already have a 16gb 6th gen anyway.

It seems those "as-new" 1st gens could be quite rare indeed.

Sent off a 1st Gen 4GB nano in black which was working perfectly.
Received today a 6th Gen 8GB nano in silver.
Good old Apple .......... chuffed to bits

Okay, one response so far for ,"Got something completely different".
