Hello all,
I'm a iphone 3G user who has a bunch of older 12V firewire accessories that don't work with my iphone. I'm looking for some advice on whether I can salvage any of these or whether I should give these away to friends with compatible ipods.
Luckily I was able to salvage my Bose sounddock as Bose provide an upgrade service here in Sydney for the series 1 sounddock where the replace the PCB of the unit and enable it to work with the iphone 3G for AUD$89.
I haven't been so lucky with my other accessories though. These include:
- An Apple iPod dock connector to firewire and USB 2.0 Cable,
- An Apple FireWire Power Adapter, and
- A Monster iAirPlay Airplane and Car Charger.
My option with the USB sync and charge cable and firewire charger seems to be one of those 12V to 5V converters which will set me back US$40 of ~AUD$60.
My mains firewire charger reports an output of 13V/0.62A so I dont know how it will operate in a sync and charge setting. Has anyone had any experience with these?
In regard to the monster iairplay, I'm a little reluctant to use the iairplay charger in the car or in a plane as I cant read any voltages or amps from the charger. It may work in a car with a voltage converter but it wont work in a plane under 15V.
Should I just cut my losses and give the monster iairplay charger away?
Thanks
